Today I will demonstrate how to protect your remote desktop services (terminal services) on Windows Server 2008-2016 and Windows 10; Windows 8; and Windows 7 by using the free multi-factor authentication (MFA) service from Duo Security.

This procedure works for Windows Server 2008; Windows Server 2012; Windows Server 2016; Windows 10; Windows 8; and Windows 7. Moreover, it will also work on any type of instance (Cloud, Virtual, or On-Premise servers/workstations).

The installation is pretty straight-forward and should take no more than 10 minutes to complete the core installation. The part that will take the longest time is configuring the policies that you would like to apply to your organization.

The service we will be using today is Duo Security Free MFA for RDP connections. The Duo Security RDP multi-factor authentication service allows you to configure up to 10 users for free and it includes the core MFA service features. If you have more than 10 users or would like to have access to the more advanced features, you can sign-up for a free trial or simply sign-up for the full service right away.
